Getting fresh produce to customers.

How it started

In 2021, we started Wholesale Mandi to connect farms and suppliers with people buying fresh produce in the city. Customers needed a way to order. We also needed to manage buying the stock, setting prices, and getting orders delivered.

The work continued through Origin Fresh, a venture-backed business focused on recurring daily orders. I led the technology until I left in December 2025.

What I did

As co-founder and CTO, I worked on the product, backend, and engineering team. I also worked with the people handling procurement and deliveries to understand what they needed from the software.

We launched on iOS, Android, and the web in the first 100 days. After that, much of the work was behind the scenes: keeping stock information current, planning deliveries, and making it easier for the team to handle daily orders.

What we built

With fresh produce, the details change constantly. The stock available to sell can change before an order is fulfilled. We also had to account for changes in quality and price.

We built tools for:

• Procurement and supplier management.
• Inventory across fulfilment zones.
• Forecasting demand for recurring orders.
• Updating prices and making stock decisions.
• Planning routes, tracking deliveries, and coordinating the cold chain.

Wholesale Mandi connected more than 500 suppliers. As the business grew, we spent more time joining up these tools so the people buying, storing, and delivering produce could work from the same information.

What I learned

I spent a lot more time thinking about warehouses and delivery routes than I’d expected when we started.

To build useful tools, I had to understand the decisions people were making during the day and the information they had at the time. That meant talking to the procurement and delivery teams about what happened when an order didn’t go to plan.
